What hours are you open?

The Community School is open for beforecare at 7:00am for all students.  Aftercare is open until 6:00pm.  There will be an additional charge of $1.00/minute for any pick ups after 6:00pm.  

Are you open for care on early dismissal days?

Aftercare is only open on Early Dismissal days that are on our school calendar.   Aftercare is not open on days of early dismissal due to inclement weather. 

Is there a snack time in Aftercare?

Each age group will have a designated snack time.  Please send in a snack marked aftercare.

Can my child eat breakfast in Beforecare?

If your child needs to eat breakfast in beforecare please be sure to let the staff know when you drop them off in the morning.  They will sit at a table to eat.  If they are getting breakfast from school, the K-6th students will be able to get it before going to class.  The preschool students have a breakfast time at the start of the school day. 

Does my child have to be potty trained?

No, your child does not need to be potty trained. Please send in extra diapers/pull ups and wipes.  Please place these items in a separate bag marked with their Name and Community School. 

Who is allowed to pick up my child?

Anyone who is on your approved pick up list at time of registration.  They have to be at least 18 years old.  You or the other people on the approved pick up list will need identification to sign your child(ren) out.  We will not release any student to someone not authorized to pick the student up as indicated on the registration form.

Will my child(ren) be able to do homework in Aftercare?

This is our homework policy outlined in our handbook:

Homework Time

· Our homework time is:

o Monday through Thursday for 30 - 45 minutes each day in aftercare.

o Designed to provide your child an opportunity to do his/her homework at aftercare.

o Not a tutoring service.

 · Our staff WILL:

o Encourage a child to complete their assignments.

o Circulate through the group to make themselves available to the students.

o Direct students searching for materials/information they need to find answers.

o Answer questions to the best of their ability to children who ask them for help.

 · Our staff WILL NOT:

o Force a child to do his or her homework or search their book bag.

o Work one-on-one with a child for an extended period of time.

o Give students answers to their homework.

o Check students homework to ensure it is correct.

o Make sure all assignments are complete each night.

 · Our families are EXPECTED to:

o Share their expectations on homework completion with their child.

o Notify the Coordinator in writing if they do not wish for their child to do their homework.

o Check their child’s homework each night.

 · Our students are EXPECTED to:

o Ask if they need help or do not understand their assignment.

o Arrive at aftercare with all of their homework papers, books, pencils, etc.…

o Be honest about whether they have homework each day and if they have completed all assignments by the end of homework time if asked.

o Participate in a quiet activity during homework time if their parents do not require them to do homework in aftercare. (No Electronic Devices)

What if there is a change in my schedule?

If there is a change in your child’s schedule you will have to write a note to the teacher regarding the change.  You should also call the main office to make sure they received the change. You can also email the Community School Office at tmullan@lehsd.k12.nj.us or kskripak@lehsd.k12.nj.us.

Is there transportation provided to and from Beforecare/Aftercare?

No, there is no transportation provided for these services. Beforecare and Aftercare take place in the same school your child(ren) attends.
